Lexington is located at the southern edge of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It is approximately 40 minutes from Staunton and an hour from Roanoke, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville. The town is surrounded by farmland and public lands, making it a great place for outdoor adventures. All employees are invited to enjoy benefits of the W&L Outing Club at no cost.

The University strives to offer an equitable benefits package for all income levels.
Home Loan Program
The University provides housing loans to full-time employees at a reduced rate. Loans will be offered at 25% below that of Lexington financial institutions home loans.
Professional Development Opportunities
W&L fosters a culture of lifelong learning. Employees are provided with numerous opportunities for training and development. The Employee Continuing Education Program offers tuition assistance for eligible employees to seek higher degrees, certificates, or licenses that support their work. Eligible employees and their spouses/domestic partners can take up to two tuition-free W&L courses per academic term. Skill building and professional development opportunities are offered to employees and teams throughout the year.
Educational Grants
The University believes in the value of education and provides opportunities to reduce the cost for employees’ dependents. Employees receive up to 50% tuition assistance at any accredited institution of higher education and 90% of tuition assistance for dependents accepted and attending W&L. W&L also participates in tuition remission exchange programs with the Associated Colleges of the South and the Great Lakes Colleges Association.
Employee Resource Groups
The University currently offers several employee resource groups that are designed to bring together employees with shared interests and experiences. Groups are open to all faculty and staff. The employee resource groups act as a platform for employees to connect, share experiences, and contribute to a supportive workplace environment.
Generous Time Off
Most full-time staff earn 25 days of time off per year. Additionally, the university closes for one week in November and two weeks in December to January to give all employees a well-deserved break.
Student Loan Forgiveness Eligibility
W&L employees have access to a financial wellness service that helps find the best student loan repayment and forgiveness programs for your financial situation. Through TIAA and Savi, this service may strengthen your current financial footing by lowering your monthly student loan payment and positioning you for student loan forgiveness. W&L pays the fee for you to use this service.
